The Wolf Fest Story Pictures and Video Wolf Fest Shirts
On January 11th 2001, at the Northside Tavern, the Breeze Kings put their "Howlin Wolf lovers" reputation to the test. We organized an "All Wolf All Night" tribute to the great Howlin Wolf. The walls were covered in Wolf pictures. The CD player warmed us up with Wolf music. And the band stormed through the night with ten brand new Wolf tunes and the packed house of blues fans couldn't get enough. We invited a lot of friends to join us and they actually showed up and joined us to perform their favorite Wolf numbers (Tinsley Ellis, Ross Pead, Urban Shakedancers, Dennis Cantrell, Bones Hunter, Randy Chapman, Magic Fred). It was unbelievable!! A whole night of NOTHING but Howling Wolf songs. It was a night to remember. Hats off to all the performers and fans who came out and to celebrate the legacy of one of the greatest bluesmen of all time.
For the next two years fans and friends asked again and again "When are
you going to do another Wolf Fest?"
Another one? That was supposed to be a one time thing. Wasn't it?
Well ask enough and you shall receive. We tried it again in 2004 and everybody (and more) came back and the annual event was born. We've missed a couple years here and there and the fans let us know that it did not go unnoticed. We know now not to miss another one.
WOLF FEST. It was a crazy idea that led to an incredible spontaneous night that would ultimately become the annual event. It gets better every year but no matter how big Wolf Fest grows, we may never match the magic of the very first one ... but it will be fun trying!
